Priorities

Committed to building a district where every child can thrive, by addressing their unique needs and strengthening our community partnerships.

My number one priority is the academic excellence of all students in our district. We have a diverse community, with a wide range of challenges and opportunities for every child, and closing the achievement gap has been a long-standing problem. We can build a district that lifts everyone up by focusing our efforts on making sure that everyone gets the support they need. Addressing their unique needs should be at the forefront, so every kid can come to school and achieve their full potential.

We all want what’s best for every student, and when they thrive at school, the entire community benefits. We can’t solve these problems alone, and we need the continued support of the community, the city, parents, and teachers to meet the challenge. Over time, the community has shown us so much support in funding our schools, and we need to make sure we earn that support every day.

While we have many promising programs that are improving student achievement, we need to rebuild trust with our partners in order to successfully implement them. We can’t afford to be distracted from our educational goals by ; as trust erodes it becomes more difficult to execute on progress. Making sure we build communication structures that accurately and effectively inform our decision-making is critical to executing on the district plans, learning, and adapting to results.

Many of the biggest challenges transcend just the district: affordable housing, homelessness, work demands for parents to make ends meet, and equitable planning to support community growth, to name a few. We can’t shy away from these tough challenges, and we’ll go further together with our partners, rather than just going faster alone.
